Stright Lunch: A Handwritten Font That Brings Strength to Branding
Testing Across Brand Touchpoints
- Logo Design: In the coffee shop logo, it worked beautifully as the primary typeface. Paired with a clean sans serif for the tagline, it created a strong visual hierarchy without competing for attention.
- Packaging Mockup: On a mockup of coffee bags and to-go cups, the font read clearly and added warmth. It gave the product a boutique feel without sacrificing legibility.
- Business Cards: Printed mockups looked sharp. The contrast in strokes held up well in small print sizes, though I’d recommend using it for short text only.
- Social Media Graphics: Instagram stories and post headers benefited from the font’s personality. It felt authentic and helped elevate the brand’s visual tone.
- Web Design: As a header font on the homepage hero section, Stright Lunch drew the eye and gave the site a distinctive character.
When to Use Stright Lunch—and When to Step Back
Stright Lunch shines as a display font or headline font. It’s best suited for short bursts of text where personality matters—logos, headers, social media quotes, packaging accents. I wouldn’t recommend it for long body copy or small print text. The strokes, while strong, can start to blend at smaller sizes, reducing readability.Font Pairing Tips: Finding the Right Typographic Balance
- Serif Font: For a more classic or editorial feel, pairing Stright Lunch with a soft serif like Playfair Display created a nice contrast between warmth and elegance.
- Sans Serif Font: Using a clean sans like Montserrat or Lato for body copy gave the design a modern, approachable edge.
- Modern Typography Systems: When building a full type system, I found that Stright Lunch worked best as the top-tier header font, while more structured fonts handled navigation, captions, and supporting text.
